International Association of Holistic Animal Practitioners
Advancing Holistic Animal Care Through Education, Ethics, Credentialing & Community

Specialty Designations
Specialty Designations are designed for practitioners who want to receive formal recognition for focused training and applied experience in specific modalities within the holistic animal-care field. While board certification reflects broader foundational competency, Specialty Designations allow professionals to showcase additional areas of study, skill, and professional development.
These designations help recognize practitioners who have pursued deeper knowledge in specialized areas and who are committed to practicing with greater clarity, responsibility, and professionalism.

What a Specialty Designation Means
-
A Specialty Designation is an advanced recognition awarded in a specific modality or focused area of practice. It reflects documented education, relevant practical experience, and successful completion of the appropriate specialty review or examination process.
-
Specialty Designations are intended to help practitioners demonstrate additional competency, distinguish their professional focus, and build greater confidence and trust with clients, colleagues, and the broader animal-care community.
Who Is it For?
Specialty Designations are ideal for practitioners who have already built a strong professional foundation and want to receive recognition for additional modalities they have studied and applied in practice. These designations are suited for professionals who are committed to ongoing education, thoughtful skill development, and responsible integration of specialty techniques into their work.
How Specialty Designations Work
Applicants may request one or more Specialty Designations by listing the desired modality on their application and providing supporting documentation for their training and experience in that area. Each specialty is reviewed individually and awarded based on the applicant’s qualifications, case documentation, and successful completion of the required assessment process.
Specialty Designations are separate from basic membership and are intended to complement a practitioner’s broader professional development.

Maintaining a Specialty Designation
Important Note
Specialty Designations are intended to recognize additional focused study and professional development. They do not replace legal requirements, licensure regulations, veterinary oversight where applicable, or responsible referral practices. Practitioners are expected to work within their appropriate scope of practice at all times.
Apply for a Specialty Designation
Practitioners seeking specialty recognition should submit an application that clearly identifies the modality or modalities requested, along with supporting documentation of education and experience. Applications are reviewed to ensure that each specialty designation reflects meaningful preparation, responsible practice, and professional readiness.
